Depart Huaraz at 8:00 AM, traveling north through the towns of Marcara, Carhuaz, and Ranrajirca. We’ll arrive at the town of Yungay (2500m), which was buried by an avalanche in 1970. From here, we’ll ascend towards the Cordillera Blanca, entering Huascarán National Park. Visit the picturesque Chinacocha (Llanganuco) and Horcococha lakes before continuing to Cebolla Pampa, where the hike begins. The trail gradually climbs in a zigzag pattern, leading us to Pisco Refuge (4670m), where we’ll spend the night. The refuge offers breathtaking views of Huascarán, Chopicalqui, and other majestic peaks, and is an ideal spot for watching a spectacular sunset.

After an early breakfast at 5:00 AM, we’ll depart from the refuge at 6:00 AM. The hike starts on a challenging moraine path with unstable stones, but the incredible views make the effort worthwhile. As the sun rises, we’ll witness the Andean mountains such as the three peaks of Huandoy, Pisco, Yanapaccha, Chopicalqui, and the majestic Huascarán. After approximately 4 hours of hiking, we’ll reach Laguna 69, where we can enjoy the impressive view of Chacraraju Mountain. After a well-deserved break, we’ll descend for 2.5 hours back to Cebolla Pampa, where our private vehicle will be waiting to return us to Huaraz.
